Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to enrich the lives of my students the way my favorite teachers did for me as a child. To make them yearn for learning, seeing the excitement in their eyes, and having the meaningful conversations each day is priceless.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable experience had to be at the beginning of my career when I taught a self-contained special education class for emotionally and behaviorally challenged students. They were doing all they could do each day just to survive. Hygiene was not a priority. I planned “Drew’s Day of Beauty “ where we taught hygiene skills while pampering the students! The students left clean, with new skills and even new socks!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the $25,000 toward the Education of my two children. I have a 14 year old son who I adopted at birth, and also was blessed enough to adopt his biological sister 12 years later and she is now 2. Providing for them is my priority.
