I love teaching because I get to make math accessible to all learners and help every student build a confident, capable math identity.

I became a teacher to be a safe place where every child feels seen, supported, and capable. I am passionate about making math accessible so each student can build confidence and develop a strong, positive math identity. I don’t want to just teach math; I want to help students believe they are capable mathematicians.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceIn 2021, our school community experienced the heartbreaking loss of a student and his mother, a fellow teacher, in a tragic accident. In the midst of unimaginable grief, I witnessed students, staff, and families come together with extraordinary compassion and strength. The love, unity, and support that was provided reminded me that teaching is not just about academics—it is about community, resilience, and caring for one another.
What would you do with the $25,000?If I won the $25,000 prize, I would invest in reliable transportation to ensure I can continue commuting to school each day with peace of mind. I would also use a portion to pay down student loan debt, allowing me to focus fully on my students and my classroom. This support would provide stability and help me continue serving my school community for years to come.
