Tell us why you became a teacher

I actually started out as a para and when I was actually in the classroom I decided this is what I want to do. It took me 10 years to get through college because I had 3 children and it was a 2 and 1/2 hour drive for most classes. I didn’t give up because it was I felt like I needed to do.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

When I was teaching 5th grade and the lesson was the Underground Railroad which was all hands on. Slaves were auctioned bankers and quakers were chosen. Slaves with the help of the quakers would escape from the south of the building to the north hiding out in classrooms to be free. A student reached out to me and said that was her most rememerable lesson. It made my day!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would put a smart board in my room. Spend some money on my class supplies. Donate some to my school for students who can’t afford it. I would help my grandchildren with college.
