I love teaching because my room has become the safe place in the building for all students, and I get to help keep the arts alive.

Learn MoreI became a teacher because I want every student in the building to be able to say they have a teacher that loves and cares about them. As a theatre kid, I know what it is like to feel like the odd one out and to try my best to fit in rather than stand out. I have been able to create a space in the building for the children that relate to that feeling to be themselves and feel supported.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceI am back teaching at the high school I went to and when I was a student until now, the lunch room has always been a place that fills me with anxiety. This year I have 40 kids that eat lunch in my classroom between the 3 lunch periods we have. Students play games, sing songs, talk with their peers and chat with me. It is the best part of every day to see a community of kids that wouldn’t typically be in a room together, feel safe and supported in my classroom.
What would you do with the $25,000?I would love to use some of the money to further our theatre and arts program. I am a full time teacher and director, spending nearly 12 hours a day at the high school. On top of that I am working to pay off my degree at Emerson College while also going to Berklee College of Music for a second degree! I would also use some of this money to help pay off my loans so I am able to continue my education to be the best teacher I can be for my students!
