Tell us why you became a teacher

I became an educator because I once had a teacher who changed the course of my life. That experience inspired me to pursue a career where I could make a meaningful difference for children; not only by teaching academic content, but by helping them gain the life skills and confidence to truly love learning and embrace life itself.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of the most unforgettable moments in my teaching career was publishing a book alongside my students. They wrote narratives about their favorite sports memories, and watching their pride as they became published authors was truly powerful. It was just as meaningful for their families as it was for us in the classroom. It’s an experience I will carry with me forever and plan to recreate whenever possible.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded $25,000, I would create an outdoor learning space at our Title I elementary school. As a second grade teacher, I’ve seen how reading and writing outside sparks creativity and joy. This space would include seating, shade, and literacy and science materials so students can explore the world around them. It would also provide a peaceful outdoor area for staff to recharge, strengthening our entire school community.
