Tell us why you became a teacher

My passion for teaching dates back to my childhood, inspired by my 2nd/3rd grade teacher who share her global travels and made her students fell genuinely loved and supported. Long before entering the classroom, I cultivated a nurturing approach as a basketball coach after playing in college. Whether fostering a love of sports or a love of learning, this desire to nurture is deeply ingrained in who I am. My students keep me young at heart!

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Approaching the end of my teaching career, I recall many notable incidents: knowing a Medal of Honor Recipient, a musician in the top 3 of American Idol and the coach of the UNC women’s basketball team-all remarkable connections. However, nothing surpasses the joy and significance of my involvement with Best Buddies and Unified Basketball. The love and laughter shared between the athletes and students are an endless source of happiness. Everyone should witness this magic firsthand!

What would you do with the $25,000?

With 36 years as an educator, I have many ideas for how to use the money! I would dedicate a small part of the funds to purchasing new uniforms and sweatshirts for my Unified Basketball team, as they deserve every bit of joy and love they share with me. Another small portion would go toward taking my family to Disneyland so my yet-to-be-born granddaughter can experience the happiest place on earth. The rest of the money would be deposited in an account for a rainy day.
