Tell us why you became a teacher

I lost my job and was a newly single mother. I started substituting and was hired on as a paraprofessional at my Alma matter. I’ve always been an empath and have always held jobs where I can help someone or be of service. I fell in love with working with children and helping them grow or understand concepts they couldn’t get.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Before I became a teacher, I worked with small group SPed children in 3rd grade as a paraprofessional. Specifically I had a student that had STM and read on a pre-k level. His comprehension and writing skills not much better. By the end of that year, he had grown two grade levels and his confidence even more. He went from struggling and hating school to being excited, smiling, laughing, and being involved in class. I was so proud of him and the work he put in with me to get there.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Gosh, this would be an incredible gift. Not only would it help me personally, but being able to create a classroom of my dreams so that every child that comes through my door feels safe and loved would be all I have ever wanted. I teach at title one schools. I provide snacks and extra stuff for my kids that cannot get them outside of my class. I would love to create a room where maximum learning can happen in the most comfortable way. This would help out soo much.
