I love helping students who’ve struggled in school and/or in life and realize they’re capable, valued, and able to succeed in their own way.

I became a teacher because I believe every student deserves someone who believes in them. Many of my students face challenges that make school difficult, and I want to create a space where they feel supported, valued, and capable. Teaching allows me to build relationships, encourage growth, and help students realize their potential, both academically and personally.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceDuring my first year teaching, I was warned about a student who other teachers said was impossible to manage. Instead of letting that shape my view, I chose to get to know him myself. Though he was often failing and struggled in other classes, he began to succeed in mine. By building a relationship and giving him a chance, he started completing work and engaging in learning. That experience showed me how powerful it is when students feel seen and believed in.
What would you do with the $25,000?If awarded $25,000, I would invest much of it into strengthening science learning in my alternative school classroom over the next three years. Due to budget cuts, we lack many typical lab materials. These funds would support hands-on experiments, lab equipment, and field trips to environmental and science centers that students otherwise could not access. A portion would also help relieve my student loan burden, allowing me to continue focusing fully on supporting my students and their success.
