Tell us why you became a teacher

I grew up watching my mother dedicate over 30 years to education. I saw firsthand the impact a great teacher can have on a student’s life. As a former student athlete, I wanted to give students a place where they feel confident, capable, and supported. Teaching physical education allows me to help students build not just strength and skills, but teamwork and confidence. As a mother of 2 young children, I also value being present for my family which is an opportunity teaching has given me.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My 3rd year of teaching, I organized and ran a 7th/8th grade badminton tournament. What started as a simple competition turned into something unforgettable. As the teams battled their way to the championship game, the gym filled with cheering, excitement, and pure joy. Even some of my quietest kids were up on their feet cheering. Classmates supported one another like a true team. Watching them light up and cheer for each other reminded me why I love what I do.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the prize to create unforgettable memories with my family. My children are turning 3 and 5 this summer, and being able to celebrate both birthdays with a special family trip would mean the world to us. Teaching is about investing in others every day and this opportunity would allow me to invest in time, joy, and experiences with the people who support me the most.
