I love watching students discover confidence through real-world skills they’ll carry for the rest of their lives.

I originally majored in interior design and planned to teach at the college level someday, but wanted real industry and classroom experience first. That path led me to earn my certification in Family & Consumer Sciences education. Fifteen years later, I’m still in the high school classroom and couldn’t imagine doing anything else. Helping students discover practical life skills and creativity is where I’m meant to be.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceA student who struggled in traditional classes entered my Culinary Arts course feeling defeated. I saw leadership and a passion for food and encouraged them to join my restaurant management competition team. They thrived. Years later they reached out to say that moment changed their path and inspired their career. This year they surprised me by purchasing items from my classroom wish list with a note thanking me. It still brings me to tears.
What would you do with the $25,000?Honestly, I’ve never thought about what I would do with $25,000. I would likely save for my twins’ future, give back to my parents for all they’ve done for me, and continue investing in meaningful experiences for my students. Supporting the people who shaped me and the students I teach would mean everything.
