Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe young people are capable of more than they often realize. Growing up, I learned the value of discipline, resilience, and pride in where you come from. Teaching Spanish allows me to share language and culture while helping students build confidence and perseverance. My goal has always been simple: challenge students, support them, and help them discover what they’re capable of.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable experiences is when former students come back and tell me they’re grateful I pushed them. Seventh grade can be a tough year, and learning a new language isn’t easy. But watching students who once doubted themselves grow in confidence, earn recognition on national exams, and realize they are capable of more than they thought is incredibly rewarding. Seeing that transformation never gets old.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would invest in expanding opportunities for my students to experience language beyond the textbook. I would purchase immersive classroom resources, support student participation in national proficiency exams, and create engaging materials that help students build confidence in speaking and understanding Spanish. My goal is always to help students see that learning another language opens doors to the world.
