Laila Green

Teaching is the way I give back. Growing up, I always knew that I wanted to do something that would help children. Teaching lets me do that.

Tell us why you became a teacher

I wanted to help children. I went to school to major in Psychology to be a child psychologist, and even though I LOVED it and found it fascinating, I understood that my empathy button was too big. I needed to be able to make a difference in a more impactful way. My great grandmother taught in a one room schoolhouse long ago her entire career, my grandfather continued in education as a teacher, principal, and superintendent, and my father was also a teacher. It was part of who I was.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I have to choose one?! It really is just the day to day journey of teaching first graders to love books. There is no better feeling than helping someone learn to read!

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would make my classroom inviting, comfortable, enriched, and a home away from home. That's what I already strive to do, but boy, the money would help it become even more so!
