Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I felt like that was my calling. One day I walked into my niece’s Pre-K classroom I had this overwhelming feeling that the classroom is where I was meant to be.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable experience is a heart breaking one but in the end it worked out in the best interest of the child. I had a student a few years back that was going through some really bad stuff at home. The student wasn’t being properly cared for and I felt I needed to intervene. After authorities got involved, the student was removed from the home and placed in the care of his father who lived in another state. It was heart breaking to know he was taken from his mom but I know it was right.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won the $25,000 I would use it in multiple ways. I would set aside some of the money for my children’s college fund, which they currently don’t have. I would also use some of the money to make some much needed home repairs. I would also buy books for each of my students because some of them don’t have books to read at home.
