I became a teacher because, as a child, I was defined by my behavior instead of who I truly was. Labeled the “problem” student, that reputation followed me for years and denied me a fair chance to grow. I know how it feels to be misunderstood and overlooked. I teach to break that cycle, to see each child as an individual, build meaningful relationships, look beyond labels, and give every student the opportunity, support, and belief they deserve to succeed, no matter their needs or past.

My most memorable teaching experience was when a student became frustrated trying to draw a heart. He was overwhelmed, so I sat with him, and we played with Legos until he felt ready to talk. Once he shared what was bothering him, we worked on it together. When he finally drew the heart, he beamed with excitement, and our class celebrated him. That simple moment reminded me that teaching is about patience, support, and never giving up. While it may seem small to some, to me it was powerful.

If I were awarded $25,000, I would be able to pay off nearly half of my student loans. This would significantly reduce my financial burden and provide greater stability and peace of mind. With less debt, I could better plan for my future, build financial security, and continue investing in both my personal and professional growth.
