Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to use my skills in the most worthy way - teaching kids. I discovered that teaching my young son socially and academically, not only brought me joy, but I realized I have a knack for it. I knew I could do the same for other children. Helping them turn on their flashlight, and guiding them to all the many places they can point their brightness to explore more deeply all the things in life that inspire them is gratifying. Teaching allows me to combine passion and purpose.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

There no single most memorable moment for me. However, my past students will often email me to update me on how they are doing with school and life. They often reach out to share accomplishments and achieved goals. It is special to me these small notes and emails. I’ve received an email about a student whose writing was published. Another who was grateful I taught research skills thoroughly, even in 5th grade, as it served him well in upper grades. It’s not one moment, it is all of them.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use the money toward education. Whether for the education of my own son, or continued education for myself. We are all learning and growing everyday. The most rewarding thing is to grow yourself stronger in such a way that you can bear more fruit for those around you.
