Learn MoreI first became a teacher because, at the time, I had two kids in elementary school who needed me to be on their schedule. My current occupation as a laboratory secretary was not on their schedule. So, I went back to college and got my Bachelor's in Elementary Education. I didn't expect to fall in love with teaching. From the first year I was hooked. I loved being off with my own children, but I also loved seeing my students grow and make progress in the classroom. I still love being an educator.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceI taught 3rd grade at a school that was down the street from my dad's restaurant. It was a historical landmark, and we were studying the history of Greenville. I planned a field trip to see it. My mom and dad made a huge deal out of it. They had donuts waiting on the kids and dad showed them how he made tamales. Mom told them how my grandfather had started the restaurant and took them on a tour of it. That was in 2001. To this day, my former students remember that field trip!
What would you do with the $25,000?If I had the honor and blessing of winning $25,000, I would use the money to pay on my student loans and help with our finances. My loans are more than the $25,000, so I'd have to split it up, but it would help tremendously. My husband is currently on disability due to having Stage 4 bladder cancer. The money would be a huge help.
