I love being an inclusion special education teacher. Seeing the growth in my students year to year is nothing short of amazing.

I became a teacher in my early 20s because I always have loved kids. I was a shy kid myself but when I was around kids, I just felt like it was my calling to mentor them, help them grow! I taught kindergarten for 7 years and that was the hardest job in the world but taught me so incredibly much. I continue to now learn from my students each and everyday and they inspire me as I hopefully inspire them. I believe every child has potential and my job is to see they reach it to the fullest!
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most memorable teaching experience is seeing a child who had extreme needs in all academic areas as well as challenging behaviors exceed after being with me into intervention group for several years. His scores have skyrocketed, he now can read almost anything, and his confidence soars now, which is the best part. Data is a huge part of my job and seeing growth in that is huge. But seeing a child with dyslexia read, when they said they never would, is an indescribable feeling.
What would you do with the $25,000?My own child has learning disabilities and he works extremely hard everyday. I’d for sure take him and his brother on a trip to celebrate them and all of their hard work. I’d also use the money to buy more supplies for our learners who struggle with reading. We are always using tools to keep our learning multi sensory but also to keep it engaging and fun!
