Teaching found me. My time working at an educational farm sparked a passion for educating and sharing my love of the natural world that I couldn't ignore. Once I stepped into a formal classroom, everything clicked. I realized that empowering students to discover their potential isn't just a job for me—it’s a calling.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my students initially struggled with Chemistry and felt disconnected from the subject. After they hit a major breakthrough, I sent a handwritten postcard home to celebrate their hard work. That small gesture changed everything. Their confidence soared, their attitude shifted from frustration to curiosity, and they began to truly enjoy the challenge. It reminded me that belief is the best catalyst for learning.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use this prize to cultivate a Native Plant Garden on campus—a living laboratory where my students can experience the "lightbulb moments" of biology and chemistry firsthand. This hands-on space will foster the same wonder I found working on a farm. Additionally, this award provides the personal financial stability I need to remain a dedicated, long-term educator. By investing in my students’ environment and my own career, I’m ensuring a sustainable future for us both!
