When I was sixteen years old, my parents abandoned me. At an age when most kids are still trying to figure out who they are, I suddenly felt completely alone. Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable moments as a teacher was when my classroom won a $5,000 classroom makeover. At the time, I was teaching in the city where our budget was limited, but my students and I had big dreams for our classroom. Instead of simply wishing for changes, I had my students write letters explaining what they hoped to have in their learning space and why it would help them learn better. What would you do with the $25,000?

If our class won $25,000, the first thing I would do is involve my students in the decision-making process. Just like I have done before, I believe student voice is powerful. I would ask them to share their ideas about how the money could improve not only our classroom but also our entire school community.
