I once planned to be an architect, but while in college I began working with children with autism—and quickly discovered where I truly belonged. What started as a part-time job became a calling. After becoming a paraprofessional, I realized I wanted to lead, teach, and make a deeper impact. That moment pushed me to return to school and become a special education teacher.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching moments happen when a student finally masters a skill we have practiced many times. For example, when teaching a simple addition equation, we repeat the steps until they become familiar. Then one day, the student solves it independently. The best part is the look on their face when they realize they did it themselves—the pride and confidence in that moment make it unforgettable.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000, I would use it to create a more inclusive classroom for my students. I would purchase assistive technology, hands-on math and reading materials, and sensory tools to support diverse learning needs. My goal is to give every student the tools, confidence, and opportunities they need to succeed. I would also start a college fund for my nieces and nephew.
