Tell us why you became a teacher

I wanted to share my passion of art and the importance it plays in your life. Art is a place where a childs imagination gets to play, explore, and express themselves. I create a safe environment to explore and to have the courage to be yourself. Art is recess for the brain, a space to build problem-solving skills, collaboration, and empathy. Every day reminds me how important art is for students' growth.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I have so many, but one 6th Grade elementary student told me. My sister has won several art contests because she uses a lot of the techniques that you taught her. To see art and imagination through a child's eyes come to life is amazing. I had one student that only lasted in my class for maybe 10mins for 3 years. It was the beginning of the new year in 2024, he came into class. He was actually excited about the clay project. January 8th was the first time he stayed the whole entire art class.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would invest in needed supplies and equipment for my five schools that I teach art at so students can explore a wider variety of art techniques .
