Tell us why you became a teacher

I had an amazing team of performing arts teachers from elementary through high school. My former teachers saw something in me that I couldn't see in myself and helped me discover this wonderful gift I had for music, giving me the ability to be proud of myself. That is something I wanted to share with children. Students are often filled with self-doubt and may not see their full potential.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I can't choose just one moment. It's all the little moments, the smiles, that point in the lesson when the student lights up because they understand. It's also watching them grow, spreading their wings and soaring. My favorite part of my job is being there for them for 10 years of their educational experience.

What would you do with the $25,000?

My choir attends a competition every year and they hold bake sales, fundraisers, and school dances to raise funds for our trip. I would use some of that money to help lower the cost of our next trip to help my students and their families. Second, I would plan a trip for my family. Finally get some very much needed work done on my house.
