Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe every child deserves to be heard, valued, and empowered. Watching students grow in confidence and discover their strengths is what fuels me. I began as an autism paraprofessional, then became a teacher and interventionist, and now a fourth grade teacher. Each role has deepened my passion for nurturing not just academic growth, but resilience, kindness, and belief in themselves that will carry them far beyond my classroom.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience happened recently when my students struggled with writing and lacked confidence. I taught them how powerful details can help readers see, hear, feel, and taste a story. I shared a piece of my own fantasy novel, and everything changed. They became inspired, began writing their own fantasy stories, and now we are publishing a classroom book. They went from reluctant writers to proud, inspired authors.

What would you do with the $25,000?

As a single mother I would use some of it to pay off my students loans, but also put a good portion back into my classroom. I work in a rural district where funding is low. I would like to be able to buy things for my students that we desperately need to make my room more accommodating for all learners. Like adding flexible seating options, desk bands, snacks and more books to better support all learners and create a space where every child feels comfortable included, and inspired to grow.
