I became an educator because I wanted to be there for my students in a way I wish someone would have when I was growing up. I experienced bullying in 5th grade & told my mom I wanted to end my life. If it wasn't for my mom, I wouldn't be here today. Unfortunately I did not have support at the school level, & navigating that process was very long, emotionally taxing, and extremely difficult. I want all students to have someone that supports them, make them feel seen & heard, & advocates for them.

I work with students K-6, but I invite my graduating seniors back to speak to current students about their successes, memories, & share their excitement of their next steps. Last year one of my seniors announced that she wouldn't be here today without Mrs. E. I instantly started to tear up! She shared that I had been there for her when no one else was. That I had stood by her, supported her, & helped her find the resources she needed to get through & taught her about self-acceptance.

I would purchase several things for my students, including iPads to work on self-regulation skills, create calm down kits for every class, flexible seating for students in my room & also set money aside to continue purchasing supplies for classroom lessons. Next, I would get my service dog to be certified in schools to help work with children dealing with anxiety, reading struggles, difficulties coming to school & more. I would also use some of it to help pay off the rest of my student loans.
