Learn MoreI first decided to become a teacher because of a former English teacher who I had In high school. She taught me not just the typical reading and writing skills, but she taught me what it means to be a good person and role model. As cliché as that sounds, it is the truth. However, I have remained a teacher because I simply love my students. I did when I started, and I do 30+ years later. Part of who I am is being a teacher.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceI have so many teaching memories over the years, but the one that is extra special is after my brother died from kidney cancer. My students knew I was going through a tough time, and when I returned to work, it was an end of the year field day. My students chose their team name as “Jake Strong” and orange as their color to represent kidney cancer. One student even designed a Jake Strong flag! Yes, I cried , and felt so loved. We won field day that year!
What would you do with the $25,000?I would put it in a trust fund for my granddaughter to ensure she is able to get a college education .
