Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I know what it feels like to need someone to see you before you see yourself. For me, teaching was never just a career—it was a calling rooted in impact. I’ve seen how one encouraging voice can change the trajectory of a child’s life. I became a teacher to be that voice. To create a classroom where students feel safe, valued, challenged, and inspired. I teach because I believe education is the great equalizer. It opens doors that poverty tries to lock.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If awarded $25,000, I would invest it directly into expanding opportunity for my students and community. Funds would support updated classroom technology, culturally responsive books, and hands-on learning resources. I would strengthen after-school tutoring and family engagement initiatives, and create a student opportunity fund for field trips and academic competitions. This award would not sit in a classroom—it would circulate through our school, multiplying access, equity, and impact.
