Kaytana Richardson

I love the way students light up when they have realised that not only have they learned something new, but now can teach someone else too.

Tell us why you became a teacher

The way I became a teacher was through a happy accident in college. I would tutor classmates with their science courses. After a while, they would encourage me to be a teacher instead of working in a laboratory, since I make science so fun and engaging. When it became evident that my passion was leading me to that same realization. I decided to educate younger students not only to facilitate but also to ignite their love of exploring many careers in the field of science.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

The most memorable teaching experience would have to be my most recent. I have experienced this 25-26 school year alone as transitioning from a 5th-grade teacher to a 4th-grade teacher, now to a Pre K teacher, all due to the 10-day count system to verify enrollment. Through this experience, it has shown me that great teaching is great teaching at any age level. I can now hold my head up high and say that with all my experience, I am a PK -12 educator, heart and soul.

What would you do with the $25,000?

$25,000 would be designated to discharge existing financial liabilities, thereby freeing resources for my mission of impacting the lives of our youth today.
