Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher to make a difference in the world around me, to spread kindness and love of learning. My students are the reason why I love doing what I do. To see the spark of joy on their faces when they learn something new is the beauty of guiding children. They truly amaze me daily with their ability to soak up a mountain of knowledge.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

When I was first starting as a teacher, there was a student that was autistic that was non verbal and could not communicate with others. I decided to learn more about Autism and educate the other teachers around me to best help him. I remember how learning about him helped me understand that children are all different but beautiful at the same time. How we approach them should be individualized and personal to who they are.

What would you do with the $25,000?

We would make our own school library for the students at our school. It would honor students for years to come. All ages can gather to read to one another and spread a love of knowledge across all levels.
