I love teaching because I once struggled here—now I help students find their voices, rise to challenges, and believe they can do hard things

I became a teacher because school was hard for me. I struggled, doubted myself, and was bullied. Now, I teach at the school district, striving to be the supportive presence I once needed. I want my students to feel safe, build confidence, and discover their voices. I witnessing their growth reminds me every day why I teach: to show them they are capable of more than they believe.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceOne of my most memorable moments was watching a student who had always refused to read out loud finally raise their hand. They were nervous, but the class encouraged them, and they made it through the passage. When they finished, the room applauded. In that moment, I didn’t just see a student reading—I saw confidence growing. Moments like that remind me why I became a teacher.
What would you do with the $25,000?With the $25,000, I would invest directly into my classroom and students. I would expand my classroom library so every student can find books they truly connect with, especially students who struggle with reading like I once did.
