In a world that often feels fractured, I chose to teach because I believe creativity is the ultimate tool for progress. As an art teacher, I don’t just teach technique; I cultivate the innovative mindset needed to solve the problems of tomorrow. My passion lies in providing a sanctuary where middle schoolers can transform their ideas into reality, finding their voices when the world feels loud. I teach to inspire a generation to create with purpose and lead with empathy.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceMy most moving moment was watching a student’s face when she realized she’d won Platinum at Jr. VASE. She came from a difficult background and often doubted her own voice. Seeing her realize the value in her personal vision changed her entire trajectory. It wasn't about the medal; it was about the moment her confidence caught up to her talent. That’s why I teach. I want to hold up a mirror so my students can finally see the creators I already know they are.
What would you do with the $25,000?I’d transform my classroom into a professional-grade "Innovation Studio." I’d invest in premium ceramic glazes and supplies, plus heavy-duty presses for intricate printmaking, miscellaneous craft supplies for mixed media projects, and textile stations for sustainable fabric art. By including a range of media, I can offer my students a maker environment. My goal is to remove every barrier to entry, giving them the elite mediums they need to create, experiment, and move the world forward.
