Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because of my experiences as a student. Although I come from four generations of educators, my path was shaped by struggling in school and being diagnosed with a learning disability. A caring teacher helped me get the support I needed. With hard work, I earned my bachelor’s and master’s in education. Now I strive to be that supportive teacher for students who struggle and remind them they can succeed.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I have had many memorable teaching moments, from student achievements to support from colleagues. One that stands out is working with freshmen who came from difficult backgrounds and struggled with behavior and attendance. Many skipped school and avoided learning. Over time, I built trust and made my classroom a safe space. Slowly, they began showing up, participating, and putting effort into their work. Watching that growth is something I will always remember.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were awarded this money, I would use it in a few meaningful ways. First, I would pay off some personal debt to create more financial stability. Second, I would save and invest a portion toward my retirement and continued education. I would also treat myself to a vacation with my loved ones as a way to recharge. If there were funds remaining, I would invest in professional development by taking courses or attending conferences to continue growing as an educator.
