Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I come from a family of educators and grew up seeing the impact a caring teacher can have on a student’s life. I love working with students who feel written off or underestimated and helping them see their potential. Watching a student gain confidence, try something they thought was impossible, and start to believe in themselves is the reason I stay in this profession. I want every student to know they matter and that their future is not decided by their past.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences is when former students reach out after graduation and ask to meet with me. Hearing them say that if I had not noticed them, listened to them, or believed in them, they would not be where they are today stays with me. Moments like that remind me that teaching is more than lessons and grades. It is about building relationships, supporting students when they struggle, and helping them see that their future can be bigger than they thought.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I am currently pursuing my school counseling degree so I can better support students both academically and emotionally. This money would help pay for my tuition and reduce the financial stress that comes with going back to school while working full time and raising a family. Earning this degree will allow me to reach more students, especially those who feel overlooked, and give them the guidance and support they need to succeed.
