I became a science teacher because I wanted a career that was both fulfilling and impactful. After working in research, I realized I craved a direct connection with students. As a D2 athlete, I loved coaching softball and wanted to pass on my knowledge and passion for the sport. Teaching allows me to combine these interests, sharing the wonders of science while mentoring young athletes. It’s rewarding to inspire the next generation, igniting their curiosity and helping them grow.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was my first year teaching 9th grade biology. The tough environment initially posed challenges, but I focused on building relationships with my students. Even when I doubted my impact, their growth and inspiration were life-changing. This year also marked my debut as a varsity coach, and that team will always hold a special place in my heart. The bonds we formed highlighted the profound impact a teacher can have on students and the community.

What would you do with the $25,000?

With $25,000, I would first focus on paying off debt to alleviate financial stress, prioritizing high-interest obligations. Once my debt is managed, I would use the remaining funds to enhance my classroom environment. This would involve investing in resources that support student learning and engagement. By addressing my financial situation while improving my classroom, I’d create a more supportive setting for my students, ultimately fostering their growth and success.
