Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because of my mom, who was a K–5 music teacher for over 40 years. Watching her teach and inspire students showed me how meaningful this profession can be. She wrote grants to secure instruments for her students and organized concerts for veterans and the school community. Seeing her excitement and dedication every day inspired me to follow a similar path. I wanted to share my passion for the arts, inspire students, involve the community, and be the best educator I can be.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was helping a 5th-year senior on the verge of dropping out. I encouraged him to take the SATs and finish school, reminding him that anything is possible. He graduated, and a year later returned to thank me, sharing that he had been accepted into trade school. Seeing the impact of encouragement and belief in a student’s potential was incredibly rewarding and reaffirmed why I love teaching.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I were awarded the $25,000, I would use it to support my family and ease financial responsibilities. Since both my husband and I are teachers, we often work during the summer to supplement our income. This opportunity would allow us to take a meaningful family vacation together. I would also use part of the funds to help pay down student loan debt. I would be incredibly grateful for the support and the opportunity it would provide for my family.
