When I was in 5th grade my teacher at the time, Ms.Kelsall, took interest in me and my personal growth. She took me to the operas, caviar tastings and simple trips to Walmart to buy me outfits. Little at the time did I know that she knew my home situation and this was her way of helping me. From that day forward, ms. Kelsall inspired me to become a teacher. Her dedication to children’s growth that weren’t her own made me want to do the same for kids that may have been in my situation.

One of my most memorable teaching experiences was with a student I had in 3rd grade who quickly became part of my heart. I showed up to her soccer games, asked about her hobbies, and celebrated her wins on and off the field. When ICE raids began and her dad was detained, I stood beside her family as a steady support system. Years later, now in 8th grade, she still visits me. There’s proof that love and consistency last far beyond a classroom.

With $25,000, I would use it as a down payment on a home to create stability and plant longterm roots in the community I serve. Owning a home would allow me to host small study groups, and safe tutoring space for students who need extra support. Financial security would also free up resources so I can invest more into my classroom, provide supplies, and continue showing up fully for my students both in and out of school.
