I became a teacher because music shaped my life as a student, and I want to create an environment where students experience that sense of confidence, creativity, connection, and belonging. Middle school is a critical time for growth and music provides a space where students can express themselves, collaborate, and build resilience. Teaching allows me to combine my passion for music with helping students discover their potential and develop many life skills that extend far beyond the classroom.

Taking my middle school band and choir to the Music in the Parks Festival at Worlds of Fun was unforgettable! It was their first big trip and, while they were nervous, they performed beautifully and earned first place in both divisions. Even more meaningful, the festival staff selected our school for a special award recognizing musicianship, respect, and professionalism. We talk a lot about the importance of having good character, so to see them recognized for this made me so proud!

If awarded $25,000, I would expand access and opportunity in music programs. Being able to support audition and participation fees for honor ensembles, and establish a scholarship fund to help children have access to private lessons or to study music in college could change the trajectory of a student's life. My goal is to ensure all students can access high quality music education regardless of financial circumstances.
