Tell us why you became a teacher

I have always wanted to be a teacher since I started school. I had the opportunity to volunteer in elementary and middle school classes during high school. Often, I was given students to work with whom the teacher was frustrated with because they were struggling to learn. This is when I learned about special education and decided to major in it. I wanted to ensure that the students who struggled the most to learn had the best chance to learn.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience was when I started a school-based enterprise and had my students bake cookies and sell them to staff and students at the end of the day. I would have a few of my students help collect the money and distribute the cookies. The students really started understanding that you have to work to earn money and buy things. The students also really enjoyed learning how to count real money.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would buy teaching tools to help my students especially my blind student that needs specialized materials that I struggle to get access to.
