I became a teacher because I believe education can change the direction of a person’s life. I wanted a career where I could encourage students, challenge them to think, and help them see their own potential. Teaching allows me to build relationships, guide young people through important years of growth, and know that the work I do each day can make a lasting difference in the lives of my students.
Tell us about your most memorable teaching experienceTwo things stand out-A former struggling student once apologized for his behavior and told me he was often acting out because he was hungry. From that day on, I made sure my classroom always had snacks available. Another was when students started calling me “Mama Baker,” a reminder that teaching is about care, support, and creating a place where students feel safe, seen, and valued.
What would you do with the $25,000?If I received $25,000, I would first pay off some bills to reduce financial stress. Then I would use part of it to travel with my husband, who is about to retire. After many years of hard work and supporting our family, it would give us the chance to slow down, explore new places together, and enjoy the next chapter of life.
