Tell us why you became a teacher

I believe education has the power to change the path of a life. Growing up with two now-retired educators, I witnessed firsthand the lasting impact a teacher can have, not just academically, but personally. I didn’t always love school, but I loved the relationships I built with teachers who saw me, supported me, and believed in me. That’s who I strive to be for my students. I am passionate about being a steady support system, advocating for mental health, and breaking the stigmas surrounding it.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

Graduation is my favorite day. Crying as each student crosses the stage, remembering the battles they fought, the growth I witnessed, and the conversations pushing them to believe in themselves. I think about the tears over heartbreak, the laughter in the good times, driver’s ed nerves, and game- winning moments. It’s every “good morning” and every “see you tomorrow” that built our story. Watching them walk that stage feels like watching a piece of my heart step into the world.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would create a student-led mental health initiative that connects our school and community, such as hosting a community walk for mental health awareness and reducing stigma. Build partnerships with veterans, women's shelters, and nursing homes, where they could play games, create art, listen to life stories, write letters, and simply provide conversation and connection. I would also use some of the money to help students support their peers participating in extracurricular activities.
