Tell us why you became a teacher

I didn’t choose teaching; teaching chose me through the conviction that education is the ultimate cycle-breaker. I grew up seeing how a single devoted teacher can be the lighthouse for a child who feels lost. I became a teacher to be that constant anchor, to validate my students' dreams, and to prove that their zip code does not define their destiny. My mission is to ignite the spark of curiosity that empowers them to change their world from the inside out.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable experience was with my five-year-old student, a twin who used a wheelchair. Deeply frustrated that his brother could walk and he couldn't even use the bathroom alone, his spirit was breaking. After a year of relentless work and trust-building, the moment he finally navigated a task solo, he looked at me and said, “Thank you for helping me do it myself.” It wasn't an academic win; it was the birth of his autonomy and dignity. That is why I teach.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Moving from 1st grade to a 2nd/3rd split in a Title 1 school, I need to bridge massive academic gaps. I’d invest in literacy and writing manipulatives to master English transition and hands-on Math/Science kits to make learning tangible. Most importantly, I’d create a high-quality, sensory-rich reading oasis—a dignified space where my students feel they belong and, above all, feel that they are capable of mastering any subject despite the challenge of a split classroom.
