Tell us why you became a teacher

I grew up with learning disabilities such as dyslexia and ADHD. The teachers that I had during my time as a student believed in me and showed me that despite these challenges, success was always possible. I want to be able to show students like me that success is possible for them too.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching moments came while teaching 8th grade writing. A student who had struggled all year with confidence and structure finally completed a full argumentative essay. When she handed it in, she looked at me and said, “I never thought I’d be able to do this, Ms. T.” In that moment, the grade didn’t matter but her belief in herself did.

What would you do with the $25,000?

To be honest, I would put it towards graduate school so that I can continue to educate myself on how to best support my students.
