Tell us why you became a teacher

I was working at a very rewarding but minimum wage job. There was no union . . I began to feel the lure of public school teaching because my mother was a teacher and I would visit her school when she ran an event. This job that she had was all-encompasing. She changed and I could see how happy she was. I wanted to be that way.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I was coaching a swim team in school. The students voted in a captain He was a very serious leader and gave a heartfelt " goodbye speech "to the team when he was about to graduate. I was brought to tears! Seeing how much my teaching meant to him.

What would you do with the $25,000?

Fix the pool heater so my students can be warm while learning how to swim
