Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a special education teacher to be the steady voice and safe place for students who need someone to believe in them before they believe in themselves. I wanted to advocate, celebrate small victories, and help every child see their strengths. Watching students grow in confidence, independence, and joy is why I chose this work—and why I stay.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most valuable teaching experience was hearing a nonverbal student speak words without any prompting. In that moment, time stood still. It wasn’t just speech—it was trust, growth, and proof that patience and belief matter. That breakthrough reminded me why I teach: to create space where every student can find and use their voice.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won $25,000, I would invest in my classroom—updating sensory tools, communication devices, and flexible seating to better support my students. I’d set aside money for professional development and create a small emergency fund for families in need. I’d also save some for my own family, knowing that stability at home helps me show up fully for my kids at school.
