I became a teacher as I saw the full potential I had due to a teacher's influence and dedication. Education provided a way out of a difficult time for me. I realized I wanted to give other students the same opportunity by being a dedicated and compassionate educator.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

The most memorable teaching experience I can think of is when students started applying information they were learning in their English classes with me to real world scenarios. I had students do a project at the end of the year where they did a newscast based off the texts they were reading in class. Students planned, wrote, and filmed their projects. Together, students were able to be proud of their work. Learning goes beyond paper as it all about the opportunities you create for students.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would invest more in my classroom, taking care of my mom who is facing health challenges, and pay down some school debt.
