Tell us why you became a teacher

I was a US Navy Tuba player living in San Diego with a band that had more tubas than it needed. I was asked to help narrate a Woodwind Quintet children's show for Peter and The Wolf. I created the costuming and had puppets for the show while narrating the story. When we performed this show, I had the captivated audience in the palm of my hand as the story unfolded. That opportunity changed my pathway and I left the Navy for Early Childhood education.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

My most memorable teaching experience is not just one experience. It is the opportunities I create for my students each year through some unique and creative learning opportunities. Whether it is the Hot Cocoa Bar from real chocolate bars while dressed in pajamas as we spend the day learning every subject through the Polar Express or its the multitude of science lessons discussed as we mix and make green eggs and ham for Dr. Seuss. What would you do with the $25,000?

I would use it to help pay off my wife's student loans faster. She just went back to school and in 2 and a half years earned her bachelors and her masters. She is an amazing mother and adult teacher of rad tech students. She is a shining example of awesome service and dedication to her craft, and I would love to gift her this to clear some of that from her conscious mind.
