When I graduated from college I decided to travel to China to teach English. That's where I fell in love with teaching. Chinese students were so curious and friendly and wonderful to work with! I ended up staying there for 7 years before returning home. I've been teaching in my home state of Arkansas for 10 years, and it's still the same for me. Students are curious, fun, and eager to express themselves! That's what I love most, seeing students (like I once was) grow and blossom as individuals!

One of the most memorable teaching experiences I had was the year I taught a student who was born blind. Having a visual impairment from birth severely limited this student's academic growth for several years, but I had the joy of teaching him in the 8th grade at a time he was beginning to flourish in his skills. I learned so much about accommodating students with physical impairments and empowering student learning that year. It was a HUGE blessing in my teaching experience!

To be honest, I haven't even thought about the prizes. That has nothing to do with my motivation for this. I want my students to meet Bill Nye and have the unforgettable experience of an assembly with him! He was such a huge part of my childhood; I want my students to experience the same fun of learning! As for the money, I would want to do something meaningful and impactful for my wife (also a teacher). She has always been by my side, and this would be a huge financial help to us personally.
