Growing up, school was a constant hurdle. With ADD being a new concept, I never understood why I struggled to learn until I discovered that education isn't one-size-fits-all. My teachers never gave up on me; they pushed me toward success and inspired me to flourish in college. Now, as a PE and Health teacher, I give back. I teach with the mindset that every student learns differently, ensuring those who struggle feel seen, supported, and capable of succeeding just as I did.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

I always tell my students: "When you make it big, don’t forget old Mr. Capizola!" Isiah Pacheco, Super Bowl champion with the Kansas City Chiefs, did just that. After his big win, he invited me to join him at the White House to meet President Joe Biden. It was a surreal, full-circle moment. I use this story to show my kids that their success is my greatest reward—and that I’ll always be their biggest fan, from the classroom all the way to the top!

What would you do with the $25,000?

Winning the $25,000 would be a game-changer for my career and my students. I plan to invest these funds into my doctorate, providing the foundation I need to one day serve as a Superintendent of Schools. My goal is to move from the classroom to a high-level leadership role where I can implement systemic changes. By furthering my education, I can advocate for diverse learning styles on a grander scale and ensure every student has the tools to flourish, just as my teachers did for me.
