Tell us why you became a teacher

I became a teacher because I believe every child deserves someone in their corner. A classroom is more than lessons and standards, it’s a place where confidence grows, curiosity thrives, and students learn they are capable of incredible things. Being part of those “lightbulb moments” and helping kids see their own potential is why I show up every single day.

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

One of my most memorable teaching experiences isn’t just one moment, it’s the realization that the moments that matter most aren’t always obvious at the time. Sometimes it’s a student finally understanding a concept after weeks of struggle. Other times it’s hearing years later that something from our classroom stuck with them. Those moments, whether they matter in the moment or much later, are what make teaching so meaningful.

What would you do with the $25,000?

If I won the $25,000, I would expand the school garden I’m currently building with grant funding. The garden will already include raised beds, pollinator plants, and vegetation, but this funding could help us add a greenhouse for year-round growing and expand it into a full outdoor classroom. I would also love to introduce small livestock like chickens so students can experience agriculture, sustainability, and food systems firsthand.
