Tell us why you became a teacher

I am a 4th generation teacher. Education has always been an important part of my family and of who I am as a person. I wanted to help others. Growing up, both of my parents were teachers and seeing and experiencing that connection to the school and community was something I always wanted to continue. There are so many students out there who just need a person to be in their corner and to have a listening ear. The teaching comes once you have relationships built with the students of respect

Tell us about your most memorable teaching experience

After 28 years, there are too many to narrow down!! I would say overall the most memorable teaching experiences include former students coming back and visiting me in my classroom. Having former and current students reach out with a heartwarming story or moment where they felt respected and cared about are experiences I will always cherish. Also when now, the second generation of families come through my classroom and are just as excited as their parents to learn and be a part of my classroom.

What would you do with the $25,000?

I would set up a scholarship at my high school for students that are in hardship for life after graduation. I would also put money aside for my kids and their future educations and jobs. I would also like to put money towards a monthly appreciation recognition for teachers at my school. It could be something as simple as juice and donuts or words of encouragement. Teachers are under appreciated in many aspects.
