I became a teacher to make a meaningful difference in my community. As a first-generation Mexican-American, I saw education as my pathway to success and opportunity. It opened doors for me that might not have otherwise been possible. Because of that, I understand how powerful learning can be, especially for students who may be navigating challenges similar to the ones I faced. I chose to become a teacher so I can support, inspire, and empower students to believe in their potential.

My most memorable teaching experience was launching model rockets and using telescopes to teach students about celestial bodies, inspired by the Artemis II mission and recent planetary alignments. Students applied concepts like gravity and propulsion, then saw them come to life. Watching their excitement as rockets launched and planets came into view made science real, relevant, and unforgettable.

This $25,000 award will provide the students of Monte Alto, a historically underserved community and with the STEM resources they deserve. Many possess the potential for science careers but lack the tools to explore them. I will use the funding for updated lab equipment, robotics, and enrichment programs that make science tangible. This is more than an investment in materials; it is an investment in equity, showing my students that a future in STEM is firmly within their reach.
